Artist Statement
My art work is a search for connections, belonging and meaning in a polarized, consumeristic, polluted and isolating world. As an immigrant I am constantly re-defining my identity. I am very aware how I am affected by daily events such as conversations, walks, and books that change my direction. I find relationships between my inner activity and natural lifecycles comparable to water flowing and transmuting; sprouts swelling and shooting, fermenting fluids rising and sinking. My drawings expose internal awareness in patterns and forms that reference nature, informed by the Theory of Chaos, simulating how nature takes the shortest and most rewarding paths. I use canoes as containers that emulate my body awareness.
Bio
As a Colombian-Canadian visual artist, I have nourished my art practice while juggling jobs, family life and many interests such as fermented foods, gardening and co-housing. Life has taken me to live in England, Switzerland, Canada, China and Japan. Today I call Ottawa home where I am growing roots in my community and in my artwork.
